Why venting still matters
CSIA guidance notes that gas use does not remove the need to inspect the venting system for obstructions and suitability. A blocked or unsuitable vent can affect how the appliance performs and how safely exhaust leaves the home.
Start by identifying the actual appliance, vent type, and the manufacturer's manual. Not every gas fireplace connects to a masonry chimney, and the right service depends on the system you have.
Which work needs a separate qualified trade
- Gas lines and valves need their own qualified gas scope and are not part of a chimney request.
- Appliance repair, conversion, or installation requires a professional who works on that equipment directly.
- HVAC work is separate from chimney venting and needs its own qualified scope.
- A chimney request does not diagnose a gas appliance from a photo.
What to do if carbon monoxide is suspected
If carbon-monoxide poisoning is suspected, get outside to fresh air immediately, then call 911. This website is not an emergency dispatch service, so do not use it in that moment.
Do not test the appliance yourself, rely on smell to rule out carbon monoxide, or wait for a routine form response.
